Exodus tells how God kept his covenant with Abraham by rescuing his people from slavery and binding them to himself. As Israel multiplies under a Pharaoh who “did not know Joseph,” God raises up Moses, meets him at the burning bush, and reveals his covenant name — “I AM WHO I AM.” Plague after plague falls on a defiant Egypt until the blood of the Passover lamb marks out a redeemed people, the sea opens and closes over Pharaoh’s army, and the LORD leads Israel by cloud and fire into the wilderness, giving water from the rock, bread from heaven, and Sabbath rest. At Sinai he gathers them as a treasured possession, speaks the Ten Commandments from the mountain, and gives the ordinances and the pattern of the tabernacle. Israel breaks the covenant almost at once with the golden calf, and Moses stands in the breach until the LORD proclaims himself “merciful and gracious, slow to anger” and renews his covenant. The book closes as willing hearts and Spirit-filled craftsmen build the tent exactly as commanded — and the glory of the LORD fills it.
