Q1.02 King — Summary Handout

Series: Get Right Bible Study Series · Companion: Full Study

A summary handout for Q1.02 King (F3 QSource).

Big Idea Your body is not your own — it was bought with the blood of Christ to house His Spirit. So we train hard, but for an imperishable crown, sharpened by brothers, building only the kingdom the Lord Himself is building, all for His glory.

Memory Verse “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV)

What QSource says: Q1.02 King is the first component of the “Royalty Race” for proper personal alignment — Fitness, the daily discipline of physically training the body. The body is a man’s most fundamental piece of equipment, the bag of flesh that houses the soul, and a HIM who has “turned Pro” doesn’t merely stay in shape but constantly Accelerates his Preparedness (3S2T). He trains for reasons outside himself — to get “a crown that will last forever” and to build a kingdom of Preparedness for others — and accelerates best by running with faster men who sharpen him as iron sharpens iron.

How we’re using it: QSource raises the topic; God’s Word is the authority we sit under. Nothing is written down — each man speaks his commitment out loud, and we open next time by saying how last week went. The goal is to draw near to God, obey Him, and give Him the glory (James 1:22).

1. The Body Houses the Soul — and Belongs to God

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19–20, ESV)

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1, ESV)

Bottom line: Your body is not your own — steward it as a temple bought by Christ, and train it for His glory.

Discuss:

  • If your body is “not your own” but bought with a price, how does that change why and how you train?
  • Where do your motives for fitness (or your neglect of it) reveal that you treat your body as your own rather than God’s?

2. Train for an Imperishable Crown

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:24–27, ESV)

For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:8, ESV)

Bottom line: Discipline the body hard — but for godliness and an imperishable crown, not a wreath that fades.

Discuss:

  • Paul disciplined his body so he wouldn’t be “disqualified.” What is your fitness ultimately for — and does that purpose reach past the temporal?
  • Where are you “running aimlessly” — training (or dieting, or grinding) with no purpose bigger than yourself?

3. Iron Sharpens Iron: Run with Faster Men

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17, ESV)

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24–25, ESV)

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10, ESV)

Bottom line: You were not made to run alone — God grows you through brothers who sharpen you and lift you when you fall.

Discuss:

  • Who are the “faster men” sharpening you right now? If there are none, what would it take to find them?
  • Where are you trying to grow (in fitness or in faith) as a “Singleton,” and what has that isolation cost you?

4. Unless the Lord Builds the House

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. (Psalm 127:1, ESV)

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8, ESV)

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33, ESV)

Bottom line: Build all you want — but unless the Lord builds it, it is vanity; seek His kingdom first and entrust your labor to Him.

Discuss:

  • Where are you tempted to build your own kingdom of Preparedness rather than entrusting your labor to the Lord?
  • If your fitness (or strength, or plans) withered tomorrow, where would your security actually be?

Living It Out

Be Doers, Not Hearers “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” — James 1:22 (ESV)

Pick your Brick — one concrete, observable action from today, specific enough that a brother can ask “did you do it?” and get a yes or no.

Say it aloud: “Because my body was bought with a price and belongs to God, this week I will ___. [Name], will you check me?”

Report back next time: “Last week I committed to ___. Did I do it: yes or no.”
