Q1.11 Study — Summary Handout

Series: Get Right Bible Study Series · Companion: Full Study

A summary handout for Q1.11 Study (F3 QSource).

Big Idea A man is not changed by what he stores in his head but by what God works in his heart. Study is how we sit under the God who has spoken — in His Word and supremely in His Son — so that beholding Christ, the Spirit transforms us and the glory goes to God.

Memory Verse “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” — 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)

What QSource says: Q1.11 Study is the daily exploration into the foundations of Faith. Effectiveness without Virtue is dangerous — for every Lincoln there are “ten Stalins” — and Virtue “is not self-generated” but formed by a belief system. Study puts that belief system to the test: a leader examines life’s deepest answers rigorously enough to proclaim or abandon them. And Faith is a Practice — learn, do, learn — or it decelerates. The author found that study alone didn’t change him until he practiced it.

How we’re using it: QSource raises the topic; God’s Word is the authority we sit under. Nothing is written down — each man speaks his commitment out loud, and we open next time by saying how last week went. The goal is to draw near to God, obey Him, and give Him the glory (James 1:22).

1. Without Revelation, People Cast Off Restraint

Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law. (Proverbs 29:18, ESV)

In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. (Judges 21:25, ESV)

By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just. (Proverbs 8:15, ESV)

Bottom line: No man is safe as his own highest authority. God has spoken — get under His Word.

Discuss:

  • Where in your leadership are you the highest authority you actually answer to?
  • What would it look like to let Scripture, not your own instincts, set the boundaries this week?

2. All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16–17, ESV)

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12, ESV)

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8, ESV)

Bottom line: Every other book is a man’s best answer. This one is God talking.

Discuss:

  • Do you treat your Bible like one helpful source among many, or like God actually speaking to you?
  • What in your life needs the “reproof” and “correction” of God’s Word right now, rather than more of your own reasoning?

3. Not All Answers Are Equal: Christ Is the Truth

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, ESV)

that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2–3, ESV)

Now the Bereans were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. (Acts 17:11, ESV)

Bottom line: The deepest question of your life isn’t a what. It’s a who. His name is Jesus.

Discuss:

  • Have you actually examined Jesus’ claim to be “the truth,” or just filed Him alongside other options?
  • What does it mean to study “with all eagerness” the way the Bereans did?

4. Be Doers of the Word, Not Hearers Only

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (James 1:22–25, ESV)

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (Matthew 7:24, ESV)

Why do you call me “Lord, Lord,” and not do what I tell you? (Luke 6:46, ESV)

Bottom line: Hearing the word without doing it doesn’t leave you neutral. It leaves you fooled.

Discuss:

  • Where is the biggest gap between what you know God’s Word says and what you actually do?
  • What is one thing you already know God wants you to do — and have been hearing but not doing?

5. Transformed by the Spirit

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV)

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:12–13, ESV)

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2, ESV)

Bottom line: You can’t manufacture a new heart. Behold Christ, and God does the work.

Discuss:

  • Are you studying to improve yourself by your own effort, or to behold Christ and let the Spirit change you?
  • How can you study this week in dependence on the Spirit rather than in willpower?

Living It Out

Be Doers, Not Hearers “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” — James 1:22 (ESV)

Pick your Brick — one concrete, observable action from today, specific enough that a brother can ask “did you do it?” and get a yes or no.

Say it aloud: “Because God has spoken clearly in His Word and works in me by His Spirit, this week I will ___. [Name], will you check me?”

Report back next time: “Last week I committed to ___. Did I do it: yes or no.”
